The Etruscans inhabited the central and northern areas of the Italian mainland. They built up an extensive trading empire across the whole Mediterranean from approx.600BC – 200BC.
Their main opponents were the Greek colonies of Italy and Sicily, the Carthaginians, and of course the long wars with the emerging power of the Roman Republic.
Their equipment was based on that of the Greek hoplite but with variants introduced from their contact with Spanish, Carthaginian, Eastern and local Italian sources.
